Cartridge Load Process for the t:slim X2 Insulin Pump

Here are some helpful tips to ensure a smooth and efficient cartridge load process on the t:slim X2 insulin pump:

  • Use each cartridges only once; do not attempt to refill it
  • Use only the syringe and needle tip that came with your cartridges
  • Make sure there are no visible cracks in the cartridge
  • Make sure there are no visible air bubbles in the syringe
  • Only use compatible insulin at room-temperature
  • We recommend filling the syringe with a minimum of 120 units
  • Never fill your cartridge with more than 300 units
  • Insert the needle into the center of the white fill port on the cartridge
  • Remove residual air from the cartridge before filling

Handling Syringes and Needles

You should only use the syringes and needle tips that came with your t:slim X2 cartridges. If you believe your cartridge box is missing the included syringes or needle tips, check for them underneath the inside flap of the cartridge box.

Needle Tips

  • Depending on how the syringe and needle are packaged, you may need to remove a cap on the syringe before securing the needle tip
  • Firmly twist the needle tip onto the syringe to prevent leakage
  • Remove the protective cap from the needle tip before pulling back on the plunger of the syringe
  • If the needle becomes bent at any point during the cartridge fill process, replace it with a new needle tip

Syringes

  • Before inserting the needle into the insulin vial, always draw air into the syringe by pulling the plunger back until it reaches the desired level of insulin
  • If the syringe cannot withdraw insulin from the vial, remove the syringe from the vial and try pulling back on the plunger to draw in more air. If you’re still unable to withdraw, carefully remove the needle tip and attach a new one
  • There should be insulin in the syringe before air is removed from the cartridge
  • If your syringe is full of insulin but you cannot press the plunger to dispense it, carefully remove the needle tip, attach a new one to the filled syringe, and then try pressing the plunger again
