Understanding Typical Alerts on the t:slim X2 Insulin Pump

Alerts display automatically on your t:slim X2 insulin pump to notify you about pump safety conditions that need your attention.

  • Alerts notify you with either a sequence of notes or vibrations, depending on the settings selected in Sound Volume
  • Alerts will repeat regularly every five minutes until they are cleared by tapping OK. This can cause the battery to deplete quickly.

Pay attention to alerts and address them as soon as possible. This article provides descriptions and best practices for some common pump alerts:

Low Power Alerts

When the pump battery has less than 25% power remaining, the first Low Power Alert (2T) will trigger. When the battery drops below 5%, the second Low Power Alert (3T) will activate, insulin delivery will continue for 30 minutes, and then the pump will shut off. Tap OK and charge your pump as soon as possible.

Data Error Alert (4T)

This alert occurs when your pump encounters a condition that could potentially result in a loss of data. Tap OK and then check your Personal Profiles to verify that they are accurate. If your Personal Profiles were affected, please contact Customer Technical Support for additional troubleshooting.

Connection Error Alert (9T)

This alert occurs when the t:slim X2 insulin pump is connected to a computer via a USB cable for charging or data upload to the Tandem Source platform, but the connection cannot be established. It may be caused by connecting to a personal computer with an unsupported operating system.

How to Troubleshoot

  • Tap OK to clear the alert screen
  • Make sure you are using a Tandem Diabetes Care USB cable. If you do not have one, you can purchase one through our Accessories store.
  • Try using a different USB port on your computer, restarting your computer, or trying a different computer
  • Disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable to try again
  • If the alert occurs again, leave the pump plugged in for a couple of minutes

Incomplete Bolus Alert (11T)

This alert occurs if you initiate a bolus request but do not complete it or exit the Bolus screen within 90 seconds. Tap OK and continue with your bolus request or exit the Bolus screen completely.

Note: It’s recommended to lock your pump screen before putting it away to prevent accidental interactions. However, avoid locking your pump from the Bolus screen to prevent receiving this alert.

Incomplete Temp Rate (12T)

This alert occurs if you start to program a Temp Rate but do not complete it or exit the Temp Rate screen within 90 seconds. Tap OK and continue programming your Temp Rate or exit the Temp Rate screen completely.

Note: It’s recommended to lock your screen before putting it away to prevent accidental interactions. However, avoid locking your pump from the Temp Rate screen to prevent receiving this alert.

Load Cartridge Process Alerts

Change Cartridge Alert (13T)

This alert occurs if you selected Change Cartridge from the Load menu but did not complete the process within three minutes. Tap OK and complete the cartridge change process to resume insulin.

Note: You can reload an existing cartridge if more than 80 units of insulin remain in the cartridge.

Fill Tubing Alert (14T)

This alert occurs if you selected Fill Tubing from the Load menu but did not complete the process within three minutes. Tap OK and complete the fill tubing process to resume insulin.

Note: You can stop filling at 10.2 units if drops appear at the end of the tubing. Always disconnect your tubing from the infusion set site on your body before starting this process.

Fill Cannula Alert (15T)

This alert will occur if you selected Fill Cannula from the Load menu but did not complete the process within three minutes. Tap OK and complete the fill tubing process to resume insulin. If your cannula was previously filled, disconnect your tubing from the infusion set site on your body before continuing.

Incomplete Setting Alert (16T)

This alert will occur if you started to set up a new Personal Profile or adjust settings for Control-IQ technology but did not save or complete the programming within five minutes. Tap OK and finalize your settings.
