Tips for Infusion Set Adhesion

• When an infusion set fails to stick in the same area, many people benefit from simply moving their infusion sets to a body part that moves/stretches/pulls/sweats less, such as the upper buttocks
• Before inserting a new infusion set, make sure the skin is clean and dry, and free of oils, lotions, and perfumes
• Hairy sites should be shaved with (not against) the direction of hair growth the day prior to inserting the infusion set
• Adhesive agents may be applied to the skin prior to insertion
• Over-patches may be used to improve adhesion. With over-patches, a hole may be cut in the center to allow access to connect or disconnect from the infusion site. Disconnect the tubing from the infusion set before placing the over-patch.
• To minimize the risk of accidental pull-outs due to snagged/pulled tubing, consider using the TruSteel set, which has a second adhesive patch for comfortable connection and disconnection
